Return of more provincial buses should not be rushed – MMDA, LTFRB

MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia and LTFRB Chairman Atty. Martin Delgra said allowing more public transportation vehicles to resume operations should not be rushed since there are still many factors to be considered.

The LTFRB and MMDA admitted that they are aware of the appeals of some bus operators to allow them to start operating again but the safety of the public and the permission of LGUs to accept persons from other places must be factored in.

Despite the approval of some LGUs, Delgra disclosed that some are still unprepared while others have agreed with accompanying limitations. Some LGUs might soon agree with allowing provincial buses in case the first few weeks of limited provincial bus operations turn out well.

Meanwhile, Delgra denied singling out jeepney drivers amid the appeal to allow them to travel since there is a DOTr policy to gradually allow opening of public transportation, including the prioritization of high-capacity vehicles.

The LTRFB is now organizing the routes for other traditional jeepneys before they are allowed to return to the roads. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
