Revamp of Western Visayas police chiefs expected next week

ILOILO CITY — A revamp of provincial, city and municipal chiefs of police in the six provinces of Western Visayas is expected to be carried out next week.

In a media interview Wednesday, Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) said the oversight committee on the evaluation of performance of police is now finalizing their data. “By Monday, we will already know that,” he said.

Bulalacao said they are expecting that one fourth of the 147 chiefs of police in the region will be affected by the revamp.

He said the revamp of chiefs of police is a regular activity of the Philippine National Police “to maintain the efficiency of every member of the PNP.”

Bulalacao said some of those who will be affected by the change of assignments have already reached the maximum period of duty in the area.

He said a chief of police should be transferred if he or she already exceeded the two years period of tour of duty in one area.

“Others were recommended by their provincial directors maybe because of their poor performance also,” he said.

It is mainly due to the poor performance of chiefs of police, such as failure to prevent the proliferation of illegal drugs in their respective areas and failure to increase their efficiency in solving crimes, that they get transferred even if they have not reached the two-year tour of duty. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
