‘Rosita’ maintains strength; stormy weather in Northern Luzon

MANILA — Typhoon “Rosita” maintains its strength and remains a threat over southern Isabela – northern Aurora, the weather bureau said.

Stormy weather will prevail over areas under tropical cyclone warning Signals No. 3 and 2, and travel by land is risky over these areas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) added.

Isabela, Quirino, northern Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, and Ifugao are under Signal No. 3, while Signal No. 2 was raised over Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Sur, Mt. Province, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, northern Quezon including Polillo Island, southern Aurora, Zambales, Pampanga, and Bulacan.

Southern Quezon, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Rizal, Metro Manila, Laguna, Batangas, Bataan, Cavite, and Camarines Norte, meanwhile, are under Signal No. 1.

Moderate to heavy rains due to the typhoon is expected over Northern and Central Luzon starting Monday evening. PAGASA warns residents of these areas, especially those living near river channels, low-lying areas, and mountainous areas, to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides.

A storm surge of up to three meters is possible over the coastal areas of Isabela, Cagayan, Aurora, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and La Union, the bureau added.

Fisherfolk and those with small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas under TCWS 1-3, as well the eastern and western seaboards of southern Luzon, eastern seaboards of Visayas, and of Mindanao.

“Rosita” was last eyed at 310 kilometers east-northeast of Casiguran, Aurora.

It has maximum sustained winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 185 kph, heading west-southwest at 15 kph.

The typhoon may make a landfall over southern Isabela – northern Aurora on Tuesday morning.
