Producers of documentary “Sa Ngalan ng Tubo” aired dismay over unauthorized use of its footage in a film.

In a joint statement released Friday, Feb. 24, Ecumenical Institute for Labor Education and Research (EILER), Mayday Multimedia, Tudla Productions, and Pokus Gitnang Luzon flagged Darryl Yap for using clips from the documentary in his upcoming film “Martyr or Murderer” without permission.

“Ikinadidismaya namin ang paggamit ng piling eksena ng dokumentaryo nang walang permiso mula sa production team,” the producers said.

The producers said that while they aim to raise awareness on the plight of farmers and farm workers when they made “Sa Ngalan ng Tubo,” the documentary should be shown in its “full context.”

The producers also claimed that Yap, VIVA Films, and VinCentiments “denied the entire context of the struggles of farmers and farm workers.”

They also called on Yap and the producers of the film to remove the clips from the film.

“Ang tamang hakbang ay tanggalin ang promotional material kung saan ginamit ang footage ng aming dokumentaryo,” the producer said.

Produced in 2005, “Sa Ngalan ng Tubo” documents the struggles and demands of farmers and farm workers of a sugar refinery and plantation in Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac.

On Nov. 16, 2004, seven people died at the picket lines of Hacienda Luisita.

As of this writing, Yap has not yet issued a statement. -ag
