MANILA — Tropical depression “Samuel” maintained its strength and continues to move toward the Dinagat-Samar-Leyte area where it is expected to make landfall Tuesday night.
In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Samuel” was last eyed at 420 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
“Samuel” is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph. It is moving northwest at 20 kph.
Maintaining its speed and direction, “Samuel” is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is raised over Masbate including Ticao Island, Romblon, southern Oriental Mindoro, southern Occidental Mindoro, Northern Palawan incl. Cuyo Island and Calamian Group of Islands, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin.
PAGASA weather specialist Chris Perez said the CARAGA Region, Eastern and Central Visayas and the provinces of Misamis Oriental and Camiguin will experience rains with gusty winds within the next 36 hours.
Likewise, Western Visayas, Bicol Region, the rest of Northern Mindanao and the provinces of Marinduque and Romblon will have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms.
The rest of Mindanao and the provinces of Quezon, Palawan and Mindoro will experience the same weather due to “Samuel”.
Meanwhile, the weather bureau said the northeast monsoon is also affecting Northern and Central Luzon.
The regions of Ilocos and Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers brought about by the northeast monsoon.
Metro Manila and the rest of Calabarzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorm.
Moderate to heavy rains may trigger floods and landslides over Caraga Region, Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central and Western Visayas and Bicol Region.
Fisherfolks and small seacraft are advised not to venture into the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon due to moderate to rough waters.
Temperature in Metro Manila ranges from 23-33 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao City 22-31 degrees Celsius; Baguio City 15-25 degrees Celsius; Angeles City 24-33 degrees Celsius; Lipa City 24-32 degrees Celsius; Metro Cebu 24-30 degrees Celsius; and Metro Davao 24-27 degrees Celsius.
