San Beda College is now San Beda University

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted University Status to San Beda College-Manila during its 501st Joint Management Committee and Commission en Banc (ManCom-CEB) meeting held on February 6, 2018.

San Beda College-Manila complied with the requirements for the University Status as stated in CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 46, series of 2012 entitled “Policy-Standard to Enhance Quality Assurance (QA) in Philippine Higher Education Through an Outcomes-Based and Typology-Based QA.”

As a University, San Beda College-Manila is expected to contribute to nation-building by providing highly-specialized educational experiences to train experts in the various technical and disciplinal areas, and by emphasizing the development of new knowledge and skills through research and development.

San Beda University is expected to produce experts, knowledge, and technological innovations that can be resources for long-term development processes in the globalized context.

The first private Higher Education Institution (HEI) that was granted University status based on CMO 46, s. 2012 was Mapua Institute of Technology, now known as Mapua University. Its status was granted by CHED on May 18, 2017.

San Beda College-Manila is the second private HEI that was evaluated and passed the rigid standards of CHED.

CHED welcomes the entry of San Beda College to the ranks of Philippine universities that will provide quality teaching and research and produce the critical human resources needed by rapidly developing country like the Philippines. (CHED-PR)
