San Jose, Batangas and Catanduanes declared as egg basket, abaca capital

The municipality of San Jose, Batangas has been declared as the egg basket of the Philippines, and Catanduanes as abaca capital through new measures recently passed into law.

Republic Act No. 11707 or the Egg Basket Act which lapsed into law on April 17, recognizes the area’s egg industry economic significance in the local and national level. The municipality produces the highest number of eggs in the country with at least 70,000 tons per year.

Meanwhile, the measure declaring Catanduanes province as the abaca capital of the Philippines lapsed into law on April 15 to give recognition to the importance of the abaca industry for the rural development that can extensively increase the country’s profit.

The industry of abaca is one of the livelihoods of farmers in rural areas that provides income and development to rural agriculture.  – ag
