Sangley Airport construction will continue – Palace

Malacañang assured on Tuesday that the Sangley Airport project in Cavite and other projects in the country that are in collaboration with Chinese firms will push through. The assurance was issued despite the sanction imposed by the United States of America on the companies allegedly involved in militarization activities in the disputed territories in the South China Sea.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Philippines has its own decision which always prioritizes national interest.

“The Sangley project will push through. The President declared last night that the Americans ay pwede po nilang ipatupad iyong blacklisting ng mga Chinese companies sa kanilang teritoryo sa Amerika at siguro doon sa kanilang mga base-militar na nasa ilalim ng nga kanilang hurisdiksyon (The President declared last night that the Americans can impose blacklisting of Chinese companies in their territories and military bases under their jurisdiction),” Roque explained.

“Pero malinaw po ang sinabi ni Presidente. Hindi po siya susunod sa direktiba ng mga Amerikano dahil tayo po ay malaya at independiyenteng bansa (But the statement of the President is clear. He will not follow the directive of the Americans since we are a free and independent country),” Roque added.

Roque clarified that the primary goal of the government is to ensure the completion of its flagship projects under the Build, Build, Build program.
