Sara Duterte dedicates Christmas to children

DAVAO CITY — This Christmas season, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio wants the public, especially the parents to take a look at the welfare of the children.

“If we will be able to make every child happy and free from hunger that will be a gift that will be enjoyed beyond this season,” she said.

The mayor said Christmas is a season of sharing and giving not just the blessing but also their time, efforts and prayer to those who are in need. She hopes that “the light of Christmas will not be only seen in our offices, homes, and establishment but it must be also seen in our hearts”.

In the midst of merrymaking and celebration, Duterte-Carpio also called on the people not forget the less fortunate families who are living in hunger.

“Let us be the light to help illuminate the lives of Davaoeños,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio extolled the security forces, the police, and soldiers who are sacrificing their time away from their families just to ensure the security of all people celebrating the season.

“Let us not forget to keep in our hearts the soldiers’ troops and other law enforcement persons who are forgoing the enjoyment of the holidays with their families so that everybody can enjoy and celebrate this time with our families,” the mayor said.

This year, Davao City is elevated to the Hall of Fame after winning in three straight years the Child-Friendly City award.

Her concern for the children especially abused kids prompted her to create the Kean Gabriel Hotline ‎0908-818-4444, a child abuse reporting number. The mayor said that since the establishment of the hotline, the city rescued 483 children.

Last Friday, the mayor led the launching of the PagbaBaGo Kids and the Children’s Playpark at the People’s Park. (Armando Fenequito Jr./PNA)
