Sara Duterte will not run for a national position in 2022

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Thursday (Sep. 9) confirmed she will not run for any national position in the 2022 national elections, following President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s acceptance to run for the vice presidency.

In an interview, Duterte-Carpio said her decision is based on her agreement with President Duterte that only one person in their family will run for a national position.

“Yes, I am not running for a national position as we both agreed only one of us will run for a national position in 2022,” she confirmed.

Mayor Inday bared that her relationship with his father has not been affected by politics despite the President’s acceptance on Wednesday (Sep. 8) of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan’s (PDP-Laban) nomination as its vice presidential bet for the upcoming 2022 elections.

“The same as it was before. Our politics do not interfere with our familial relationship. Iba ang trabaho, iba ang pamilya. Walang personalan.”

Moreover, the Davao City mayor said her plans for 2022 are not affected as the Chief Executive sets his plans for the vice presidential campaign.

“It does not affect any of my plans but as we both agreed only one from the family will run for a national position. “

In relation to this, Duterte affirmed that Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s position as the presidential candidate in the PDP-Laban’s nomination was “plan A.” She said that the plan B was for Go to run as her VP.

“From the last time PRRD and I talked this was their Plan A. The Plan B was for SBG to run as VP. “

Meanwhile, Sara Duterte expressed her gratitude to her supporters and said she is one with the public’s “desire to see a better Philippines in the future.”

“Yes, I am happy we are united in our desire to see a better Philippines in the future. I will be eternally thankful for your trust and confidence.”
