Sara’s new party hopes for alliance with Marcos camp

Lakas- Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) is hoping for an alliance between the party and the camp of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

This was after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio joined Lakas-CMD on Thursday (Nov. 11), and amid speculations that she might seek a national position in the 2022 elections.

Lakas-CMD Pres. Martin Romualdez said they “want to have the highest position,” but they “respect the prerogative of the candidate.”

“I’m hoping for that, we’re all hoping for that, that they can work together … We’re thinking very positively about this,” he said.

Presidential aspirant Marcos Jr. is in Batangas for a motorcade. He said he will not “slide down” and will stand by his candidacy for the nation’s highest position despite Duterte-Carpio’s decision to join Lakas-CMD.

“Hindi ko alam ang plano ni Mayor Sara, hindi ko alam ang plano ng ibang kandidato, pero hindi magbabago ‘yung kandidatura ko bilang pangulo,” he said.

“Hindi na magbabago ‘yun kahit ano pang mangyari. Kailangan kong ituloy ‘yan. ‘Yun naman talaga ang aking paniniwala na ito ang dapat gagawin, ito ang tamang gagawin,” he said.

The presidential daughter has yet to comment on her plans for the upcoming elections. She withdrew her candidacy for Davao City Mayor on Nov. 9 and left Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) on Nov. 11. – Report from Daniel Manalastas/AG-rir
