SC dismisses DQ cases vs Marcos

The Supreme Court dismissed on Tuesday, June 28, the petitions to disqualify and cancel the candidacy of president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“The court held that in the exercise of its power to decide the present controversy led them to no other conclusion but that respondent Marcos, Jr. is qualified to run for and be elected to public office,” the Supreme Court decision read.

According to the Supreme Court, Marcos is “qualified to run and be elected.”

“Likewise, his [certificate of candidacy], being valid and in accord with the pertinent law, was rightfully upheld by the COMELEC,” it further read.

The Supreme Court added the certificate of candidacy of MarcosJr. is valid and in accordance with the law as it bears the earlier ruling of the Commission on Elections. –Reports from Cecille Villaros/KC – gb
