LAOAG CITY — The Department of Education’s (DepEd) office in the province is urging parents and guardians of all five-year-old children to have them enrolled in kindergarten early.

In preparation for the opening of school year 2019-2020, senior education program specialist Erick Medrano announced Wednesday that the registration is set for January 26 to February 22.

“The early registration ensures that all five-year-olds are enrolled in kindergarten, and to locate, identify, and enroll out-of-school children (OSC) and youth (OSYs) who are in remote areas or difficult circumstances,” Medrano said.

He said the registration will cover all public elementary and secondary schools in Ilocos Norte from kindergarten to Grade 12.

Medrano noted that the Schools Division of Ilocos Norte continues to advocate an all-inclusive participation of learners thus, they are reaching out to all concerned education stakeholders to help and disseminate the early registration activity.

“We are doing this also to address various issues and concerns that may be encountered again during the opening of classes,” he said.

School personnel are also encouraged to hold various activities, such as house-to-house campaigns, and meetings with local and barangay officials and civic organizations to help find all children who should be in school.

Special education schools located in various parts of the province have also expressed readiness to welcome new learners with special needs.
