CEBU CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Central Visayas District on Monday said there was no suspension of trips of sea-going vessels here despite Tropical Depression Falcon that slightly accelerated while maintaining its strength in Bicol Region.
Lt. Junior Grade Michael Encina, PCG Central Visayas spokesperson, said in an advisory sent to the media that they will issue a notice to all mariners (NOTAM) to inform them of the non-suspension of sea travels.
The Coast Guard in the region, he said, was placed on alert due to “Falcon”.
Encina provided the media a copy of the July 15 gale warning issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) which specifies the eastern seaboard of Mindanao as having “strong to gale force winds,” advising fishing boats and other small sea crafts not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.”
The PAGASA Regional Services Division also showed its forecast that Metro Cebu and the rest of the province will have cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms, while occasional to heavy rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced in Bohol and Negros Oriental.
The special weather bulletin said “habagat” or southwest monsoon will be experienced over the rest of the Visayas, Mimaropa and Bangsamoro regions and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
“Scattered and widespread rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas due to trough of TD Falcon,” it also said.
“Residence in these areas, especially those living in areas identified to be at risk of flooding and landslides are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local DRRMO, and continue monitoring for updates,” it added.
