Several local government units (LGUs) received an award for their outstanding leadership amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Valenzuela City, Cagayan de Oro, Negros Occidental, Quezon City, Tagum City, Agusan del Sur, Municipality of Alabat, and San Juan City were awarded the 2021 Galing Pook Award.
Valenzuela City received the award for their program “The Valenzuela City Streaming School, Paspas Permit, and Tagalag Fishing Village.”
Cagayan de Oro, Negros Occidental, Quezon City, and Tagum City were recognized for their projects on improving the healthcare, food security, and rehabilitation of the marine resources.
Moreover, Agusan del Sur, Municipality of Alabat, and San Juan City received their first 2021 Galing Pook Award for their projects on poverty reduction, coconut sugar production, and COVID-19 response.
In the ceremony on Wednesday (Oct. 20), President Duterte also commended the awardees.
“I commend the awardees for rendering public service with confidence and effective governance. May this recognition fill your hearts with renewed passion of service and leadership congratulations and mabuhay po kayo.”
According to the Galing Pook website, the Galing Pook Awards was launched on October 21, 1993 as a pioneering program that searches for and recognizes innovative practices by local government units.
