Senate approves night shift differential pay to government workers

The Senate Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization, Professional Regulation, and Finance has approved the committee report 13 meant to enact into law the payment of night shift differential to government employees. Senate Bill No. 643 covers public servants including those working in government-owned or -controlled corporations, whether permanent, contractual, temporary, or casual in status. The remuneration shall not exceed 20% of an employee’s hourly basic rate for every hour of work from 6:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. The proposal, however, does not include public health workers, government employees scheduled to render service from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., and 24-hour-on-call personnel such as uniformed members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and Bureau of Fire Protection.
