Senate wants probe on food price hike

The Senate wants the continuous increase of the prices of food products investigated.

Senator Francis Pangilinan filed Senate Resolution No. 618 that aims to uncover the cause of the price hike. He stated that the increase of prices is troublesome since many Filipinos are struggling due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey on September revealed that over 30% of Filipino families have experienced hunger. Sen. Pangilinan fears that the number of people suffering from hunger might rise due to the price increase of food products.

Based on the price monitoring of the Department of Agriculture (DA) on January 18, the price of chicken per kilo has reached ₱280, pork liempo at ₱450, and 1 kilo of siling labuyo (native chili) is priced at ₱1,000. – PTV News
