Senator Legarda vies for Congress in Antique; guv seeks reelection

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao on Wednesday filed her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for re-election and represented party mate Senator Loren Legarda in her bid for the lone district of Antique for the 2019 mid-term polls.

“The dice is cast,” said Cadiao, who is seeking her second term, right after she filed her COC at around 3:30 p.m.

Cadiao, who was carrying with her the Special Power of Attorney (SPA) executed by Senator Legarda, said the Senator has made her decision to run as representative of Antique under their LCD team (Legarda, Cadiao and Denosta).

Antique Vice Governor Edgar Denosta, who is also seeking re-election, accompanied Cadiao to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office here.

Denosta also welcomed the decision of Legarda, who is still in The Netherlands, for finally making up her mind to run in the province.

“We are on our way to victory and this is just the start of the wonderful changes that will happen in our beautiful province,” Cadiao said.

Lawyer Roberto A. Salazar, Provincial Election Supervisor III, in a separate interview, said the COC filing has been peaceful.

He thanked the Antique Provincial Police Office for deploying its personnel to man the Comelec provincial and municipal offices.

The strong political opponents of the LCD team, led by former Rep. Exequiel B. Javier and his son, incumbent Rep. Paolo Everardo Javier, have already filed their COCs on Tuesday. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
