Sereno says no reason to rush quo warranto decision

ILOILO CITY — Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno reacted to an information that the Supreme Court en banc will already decide on the quo warranto petition filed against her in May.

Sereno, in a press conference here Friday, said there is no reason for the SC to rush its decision.

She said May is supposed to be intended for writing of decisions for cases being handled by the Justices.

She hopes the matter will be given importance and studied carefully.

The Chief Justice added that her camp is yet to submit her memorandum Friday afternoon and if there was truth to leaked information that her appointment is declared null and void, then it is an indication that there was already a decision before her side can be heard.

She added that it is a manifestation that conclusion precedes reasoning and whoever is behind her ouster is really bent on kicking her out from her post regardless of arguments and evidences.

Meantime, Sereno hopes that she will have her chance to prove and show her initiatives in instituting reforms in the Judiciary through the impeachment proceedings in the Senate.

She said she also would like to show that regardless of their internal squabbles, the Supreme Court is still focused on hastening the provision of justice and equal rights to the people.

The Chief Justice was the guest of honor during Friday’s graduation ceremony of the University of San Agustin College of Law held here at the Hotel del Rio, this city. (PNA)
