Several provinces in Luzon were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 as Tropical Depression “Dodong” made landfall in Isabela on Friday morning, July 14, the state weather bureau reported.
In its 8:00 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Dodong” is moving north northwestward over the Cagayan Valley at 25 kilometers per hour (kph).
It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 75 kph and moving north northwestward at 25 kph.
PAGASA warned that possible flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur to provinces placed under cyclone signal.
TCWS Signal No. 1 is hoisted over the these areas:
- Cagayan
- Isabela
- Apayao
- Kalinga
- Abra
- Mountain Province
- Ifugao
- Benguet
- Ilocos Norte
- Ilocos Sur
- La Union
- Northern portion of Pangasinan (San Nicolas, San Manuel, Sison, San Fabian, Pozorrubio, Bolinao, Bani, City of Alaminos, Sual, Labrador, Lingayen, Agno, Binmaley, Dagupan City, San Jacinto, Mangaldan, Anda)
In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the surge of the southwest monsoon (habagat) partly enhanced by “Dodong” may bring moderate to rough seas over the eastern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon, and the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon.
The weather bureau said the tropical depression is forecast to move generally northwestward over the West Philippine Sea until it exits the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday or Sunday.
“Dodong will remain as a tropical depression during the remainder of its traverse of mainland Northern Luzon. It may reach tropical storm category by tomorrow afternoon or evening while over the West Philippine Sea,” PAGASA noted on Friday. – cf
