Solons push for aid for middle class

Solons are proposing that the government should also provide assistance to families belonging to the middle class amid the ongoing enhanced community quarantine.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier mentioned the matter and ordered his economic team to find a means.

House Committee on Ways and Means Chairman Joey Salceda says the government can get funds through realignment as part of the powers of the President in the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act of 2020.

Rep. Salceda estimates around Php 27 to 32 billion is needed to address the assistance for the middle class. He suggests a Php 1000 aid for all Filipinos, except for the rich.

Meanwhile, House Committee on National Defense and Security Chairperson Raul Tupas suggests that reservists of uniformed armed services must be utilized to help LGUs in fighting COVID-19.

Rep. Tupas explains reservists have been trained and can serve to protect citizens especially during this period of pandemic. – Report from Daniel Manalastas
