Some Ilocos Norte towns shift to GCQ

Several towns in Ilocos Norte will be under localized general community quarantine (GCQ) starting on Wednesday (Sept. 15), but five areas will be under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

The provincial government said Bangui, Batac City, Burgos, Laoag City, and Marcos will be under MECQ.

The municipalities of Adams, Bacarra, Badoc, Banna, Carasi, Currimao, Dingras, Dumalneg, Nueva Era, Pagudpud, Paoay, Pasuquin, Piddig, Pinili, San Nicolas, Sarrat, Solsona, and Vintar will be under a more relaxed quarantine classification or GCQ.

“We have seen a consistent decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases in certain localities in the last few weeks and this is because of our collective effort in preventing the transmission of the virus,” the announcement posted on Facebook read.

As of Sept. 13, the province has 1,702 active COVID-19 cases, 14,788 recoveries, and 248 fatalities due to COVID-19. Ilocos Norte has recorded 16,738 total cases to date. – AG-rir
