Southwest monsoon to bring light to heavy rains Friday

MANILA—The southwest monsoon would bring light to heavy rains in most parts of the country Friday.

In its 4 a.m. forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Palawan, Mindoro, Romblon, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.

Metro Manila, Marinduque, Calabarzon, Bicol region and the rest of Visayas and Mindoro will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers due to the southwest monsoon.

Residents are warned of flooding due to intermittent or heavy rains lasting up to two hours, PAGASA said.

In Metro Manila, heavy rains on Friday morning caused flooding in several major thoroughfares, which caught vehicles in a gridlock and commuters stranded.

Northern Luzon and Central Luzon will also have cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Temperature in Metro Manila ranges from 26-31 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao City 25-35 degrees Celsius; Baguio City 17-24 degrees Celsius; Angeles City 25-31 degrees Celsius; Lipa City 25-32 degrees Celsius; Metro Cebu 25-32 degrees Celsius and Metro Davao 26-32 degrees Celsius. (Lily Ramos/PNA)
