Spain knocks out Perlas in 3×3 World Cup

MANILA — Spain banked on a late rally to oust Perlas Pilipinas from contention in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup with a 21-17 win at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue on Sunday.

Paula Palomares had the last laugh over Janine Pontejos as the veteran-laden Spanish side handed the Filipina squad its third straight loss in Group D play.

Down 10-12 late in the game, Spain went on an 11-5 run in the end to officially knock out Perlas.

Paula Palomares led Spain with 11 points, while Aitana Mediavilla and Nuria each added four.

Pontejos finished with 13 markers, but she lacked the needed help for Perlas. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
