Sri Lankan PM’s house set on fire

COLOMBO — Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s personal residence was set on fire on Saturday, July 9, amid nationwide protests, said the police.

Eye witnesses said that fire brigades were unable to reach the house as the trucks were blocked by protesters.

Wickremesinghe has agreed to resign after party leaders in the parliament demanded both he and the president to resign, as protesters stormed the president’s residence and office on Saturday. – gb
