The Province of Quezon is now experiencing fair weather after the landfall of Typhoon Ulysses, but residents in coastal areas who were hit by a storm surge are now calling for help.
Residents of Barangay Dinahican recounted how strong waves wrecked their houses during the typhoon.
“Magsasapalaran na lang po kung anong darating, iyong pwedeng abutin. Iyon na lang po sa amin. Wala naman po kami pag-hanapbuhayan dahil malakas ang dagat (We will take our chances with what will come. We have no other sources of income because the sea is still rough),” resident Jemmalyn Cabaῆa shared.
Governor Danilo Suarez noted that the damage left by the typhoon is massive. Power outage still remains as a problem in the province. As of Friday afternoon, one casualty has been reported. But he assured that assistance will reach severely affected residents.
“Ang appeal ko sa inyong lahat, lalo na sa national government, dapat relentless tayo. Iyong lahat ng maibigay natin ay ibigay na natin. Huwag tayo magititipid ng tulong, kailangan ito ng ating mga kababayan (I am appealing to the national government that we should be relentless. We should give what we can. We should not scrimp because they badly need help),” he pleaded.
Meanwhile, all roads to Barangays Ingas, Libjo, Abiawin, and other nearby barangays are no longer flooded. Clearing operations have already began for fallen trees and electric posts.
Residents in Infanta are still cleaning their areas and some businesses have already opened. Some evacuees in Real, Quezon have also returned to their houses. – Report from Daniel Manalastas
