Stranded Pinoy seafarers, workers in China to return home tomorrow

16 Filipino seafarers and three land-based workers who were stranded in China for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic are set to return to the Philippines tomorrow.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the overseas workers will arrive in the country tomorrow at around 1:00 a.m. Eleven of the seafarers are from Ocean Star 86 docked in Dongshan since March while five are from M/V Maria P. that was stranded in Ningde since July.

The two ships are both Chinese fishing vessels affected by the “No Disembarkation Policy” of China as a measure to prevent the further transmission of COVID-19.

The DFA assured that the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen continuously provided assistance to the affected OFWs and that they have been compensated by their employers. – PTV News
