Suspect in Bohol mayor’s murder known: PNP chief

MANILA — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde on Monday said authorities have identified the killer of Buenavista, Bohol Mayor Ronald Lowell Tirol, who was shot in close range in a cockpit arena on Sunday.

“There’s a suspect, we have identified the assailant,” Albayalde said, adding that according to the victim’s bodyguard, it was the same person who tried to kill the mayor three years ago.

Reports said Tirol was taken to the Francisco Dagohoy Municipal Hospital in Inabanga town but was declared dead on arrival.

The police is still trying to determine the motive behind the killing.

Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto ordered provincial police director Senior Supt. Angeles Geñorga Jr. to go after the perpetrator who fled after the incident. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
