TAGAYTAY CITY, Cavite – An unidentified suspected “basag kotse” (car-bashing) thief was killed after he resisted arrest and fired at responding authorities who tracked him down along Vilbay Street in Barangay Maitim II in this city early dawn Tuesday.

City chief of police, Supt. Elmer Decena, said the city police station was informed of a car theft incident involving a white Mitsubishi Adventure with plate number XAK 372 parked overnight along the road.

Decena said elements of Maitim II East Police Community Precinct were alerted of the incident and investigated the car owner identified as Marie Jean Cacayuran Ancheta, 51 year-old teacher of 56 Maitim II East in this city.

The car’s right side glass was broken and the car stereo stolen, prompting the Maitim II East police enforcers to conduct pursuit operation.

While patrolling at around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, the lawmen chanced upon the suspect.

The suspect, instead of yielding to police authorities, fired at them resulting in a firefight that killed the suspect on the spot. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)
