Taguig gives graduating Grade 12 students P15-K scholarship

By Pearl Gumapos

Taguig City on Sunday announced that it gave graduating Grade 12 students from public high schools P15,000 worth of scholarship vouchers for them to use in their chosen college or university.

The voucher certificate entitles the student to claim the amount of P15,000 under the Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-Need (LANI) Scholarship program, provided that the student enrolls in any tech-voc, certificate, or baccalaureate course.

“This voucher is part of the L.A.N.I Scholarship Program that persuades graduates to take up tertiary education. To our beloved students, we have faced so much this year, let us get inspiration from this graduation,” Mayor Lino Cayetano said in his message for the graduating batch.

“We will not abandon you. We are a loving and nurturing community, we are one family,” Cayetano added.

Furthermore, all Top 1 graduating students from Grades 6, 10, and 12 received a cash incentive of P15,000, while Top 2 students received P12,500.

The Top 3-10 elementary students also received P5,000 each while completers and senior high students received P7,500 each.

Top 1 students in each elementary class also received 2,500, while Top 1 completer and senior high students from each class received P5,000.

“The Taguig City government has always believed in the importance of education and continues to ensure that all Taguigenos avail of this right,” Cayetano said.

Last February 2020, Taguig passed Ordinance No. 6, Series of 2020, which is a P700 Million Scholarship Program made to continue Taguig’s existing programs and offers new scholarship types such as Advancing Sports Competitiveness and Excellence (ASC Excellence) Scholarship Program which focuses on Taguig youth athletes, a full scholarship to students of medicine and engineering with a return service agreement to the city, a scholarship program for Taguig public servants who are interested in continuing their education, a scholarship grant for the children or dependents of Taguig public servants, and all Taguig City University regular students will be scholars of the local government with allowance.

As of April 2021, Taguig City has produced more than 58,000 scholars and continues to accept eligible applicants. -rir
