Taguig opens COVID-19 vax program to minors

By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan / Philippine News Agency

MANILA – The coronavirus vaccination rollout to the rest of the pediatric population aged 12 to 17 years in Taguig City begins on Tuesday (Nov. 2).

This means that minors belonging to this age group, who do not have comorbidities, may now receive their life-saving shots, accompanied by their parents and guardians, at the city’s mega vaccination hubs.

In an advisory, the city government said vaccination for minors is done exclusively at the Lakeshore Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Bonifacio High Street from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The vaccination for minors with comorbidities or the pediatric A3 group is done at the Medical Center Taguig from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

No walk-ins are allowed at the vaccination sites. To avail of the vaccination program, one must register at the Taguig Registry for Assessment and Citizen Engagements (TRACE) app to schedule appointments.

The pediatric A3 group may book their vaccination at barangay health centers.

The pilot rollout for pediatric vaccination began last Oct. 15 in eight participating hospitals in the National Capital Region but only for those with comorbidities.

This was further expanded to the second phase last Oct. 22 that included hospitals in different Metro Manila local government units, then eventually nationwide.

Only Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been approved for pediatric inoculation.

Children with any of these comorbidities are eligible for vaccination — medical complexity or those with long-term dependence on technical support; genetic conditions; neurologic conditions; metabolic or endocrine diseases; cardiovascular diseases; obesity; HIV infection; tuberculosis; chronic respiratory diseases; renal disorders; hepatobiliary diseases; and those who are immunocompromised due to disease or treatment.
