After briefly intensifying into a tropical storm, Tropical Depression Salome weakened into a remnant low pressure area (LPA) due to the cold and dry air from the northeasterly windflow, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) 5:00 p.m. bulletin.

The LPA was last located 145 km west-northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, increasing its speed as it continues to move southwestward at 30 kph.

Noting such developments, the state weather bureau lifted wind signals earlier hoisted in select provinces in extreme Northern Luzon but continues to warn of rough seas over the following coastal areas:

  • Up to 4.0 m: The seaboard of Ilocos Norte.
  • Up to 3.5 m: The seaboards of Batanes and Ilocos Sur.
  • Up to 3.0 m: The seaboard of Babuyan Islands; the western seaboard of Pangasinan.

PAGASA expects the weather system to maintain its track, adding that it may dissipate within the next 24 hours.
