TESDA eyes municipal skills training courts nationwide

MANILA — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is eyeing the establishment of municipal skills training courts across the country, TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling Mamondiong, said on Friday.

“It’s a scheme wherein we will use our trainees to build the buildings,” he told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Mamondiong said he wants to have municipal skills training courts so that the training facility will be at the municipal or barangay level.

To have skills training courts, it would require additional budget, the TESDA chief said, adding that he wants to have this kind of facility throughout the country.

“We will start building the first municipal skills training court in Lanao del Sur next month,” he said, adding that the center is part of TESDA’s contribution to the rehabilitation efforts in Marawi.

TESDA has been helping and providing free training to the internally displaced people of Marawi. These people, especially those who took construction-related courses, will also help rebuild the war-torn city, the agency said. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
