TESDA to provide construction courses to 10K Marawi IDPs

MANILA — About 10,000 internally-displaced persons (IDPs) from Marawi City would be provided with construction-related courses, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) said Thursday.

This is part of the agency’s Expanded Emergency Massive Skills Training Program (EEMSTP) to provide job opportunities to the IDPs.

TESDA said it targets to make the IDPs as construction workers who could eventually help the government in its efforts to bring back the normalcy in the lives of people in Marawi City and be part of its rehabilitation efforts.

According to TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong, the EEMSTP was created due to the need of Task Force Bangon Marawi for more skilled workers in the construction sector.

As such, TESDA will provide the IDPs with construction-related courses such as carpentry, masonry, electrical installation and maintenance, pipefitting and heavy equipment operation.

Mamondiong noted that these courses would address the demand for repair and rehabilitation of houses and other infrastructure in Marawi City.

Meanwhile, TESDA said the local government units, Task Force Bangon Marawi, and national government agencies would identify those who would benefit from the EEMSTP.

These beneficiaries are the IDPs in Marawi, Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro City, TESDA added. (PNA)
