Trough of LPA brings rain showers to parts of Mindanao

By Ma. Teresa Montemayor | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Feb. 20, said the country will continue to experience different weather systems, including a trough or extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) southeast of Mindanao.

In its 4:00 a.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said the LPA and easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

Despite the LPA, Benison Estareja of PAGASA said “tropical cyclone formation is less likely this week.”

Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley will have cloudy skies with light rains while Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon will experience partly to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies.

Residents in these areas are advised to prepare against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Moderate to strong northeast winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Northern Luzon and eastern sections of Visayas, Central and Southern Mindanao.

The rest of the country will experience light to moderate east to northeast winds and slight to moderate seas.

The minimum temperature is 22.8 °C and the maximum temperature is 32 °C. (PNA) – bny
