Typhoon ‘Queenie’ to dump light to moderate rains over eastern PH

MANILA—Typhoon “Queenie” (international name Kong-Rey) has intensified and will dump light to moderate rains over the eastern part of the country.

In its 4 a.m. forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Queenie” was last spotted at 1,250 kilometers east of Tuguegarao, Cagayan. It entered the country Monday afternoon.

It has wind intensity of 190 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 235 kph and moving at 15 kph. “Queenie” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday (Oct. 5).

Cagayan Valley and Bicol regions, Eastern Visayas and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will be cloudy with scattered rain showers and thunderstorm caused by the trough of “Queenie”.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Temperature in Metro Manila ranges from 25-33 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao 24-32 degrees Celsius; Baguio City 16-24 degrees Celsius; Angeles City 25-33 degrees Celsius; Lipa City 24-33 degrees Celsius; Metro Cebu 24-32 degrees Celsius; and Metro Davao 26-33 degrees Celsius. (Lily Ramos/PNA)
