Undocumented Pinoys in UAE have until Oct. 31 to avail of amnesty

MANILA— The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday reminded undocumented Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to avail of the amnesty program by Oct. 31, 2018.

The DFA made this call a day before the arrival in Manila of another batch of 150 Filipinos from Dubai, who availed of the UAE amnesty program.

The 14th batch of repatriates is expected to arrive at Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday.

Under UAE’s three-month amnesty program launched in August, overstaying Filipinos and other foreign nationals are given the opportunity to rectify their immigration status or to return to their home countries.

On Friday, the 13th batch of 78 repatriates arrived from Abu Dhabi. The number brought to 1,377 the total of Filipinos flown home by the DFA since the start of the amnesty program in August.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said the DFA, through the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs, shouldered the exit fines and other penalties, and airline tickets to Manila and to their respective provinces.

The DFA also provided a financial assistance of PHP5,000 to each of the repatriates. (Joyce Ann L. Rocamora/PNA)
