“Payong, kaibigan.”

As the month of April comes to a close, mercury levels continue to rise as some areas in the Philippines are expected to experience temperatures as high as 44°C on Tuesday.

These are among the 11 areas in the country that are set to experience dangerous heat index levels, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) heat index alert.

Among the locales that will experience searing hot weather are as follows:

  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan (42°C)
  • Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (42°C)
  • Iba, Zambales (42°C)
  • Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite (44°C)
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (42°C)
  • Puerto Princesa City, Palawan (42°C)
  • Cuyo, Palawan (42°C)
  • Iloilo City, Iloilo (42°C)
  • Dumangas, Iloilo (44°C)
  • La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental (43°C)
  • Guiuan, Eastern Samar (44°C)

Prolonged exposure to the sweltering heat in various places across the Philippines significantly increases the risk of dehydration, fatigue, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

As such, the Department of Health (DOH) reminds the public to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, refrain from going outdoors between 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. whenever possible, and always bring an umbrella and apply sunscreen to protect themselves from the sun.

Meanwhile, no low pressure areas are being monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation, the state weather bureau said.
