Transport Strike Pushes Through

Despite the possibility of losing their franchise, as forewarned by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), operators and driver-members of the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) and Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO) came together as early as 12 midnight and pushed through with today’s transport strike. Commuters were left stranded in major thoroughfares despite leaving their homes early in anticipation of the mass action. Government agencies, local governments and volunteers alike offered free rides to ease the blow of the protest from the Public Utility Vehicle sector on the government’s move to modernize the public transport system.
