DAVAO CITY – The Presidential Commission for Urban Poor (PCUP) will launch on August a privilege card for the urban poor informal settlers in this city.

About 3,000 families from this city will be granted the privilege cards and 1,500 from the neighboring Panabo City, said Commissioner Norman Baloro.

To be eligible, Baloro said families must be members of any association accredited by PCUP and must be informal settlers.

“Davao and Panabo cities were identified having numerous informal settlers, that’s why they will be our first batch of recipients,” Baloro explained.

However, Baloro said the card is not as established as the senior citizen’s card for it has limitations. For instance, it will only offer a 10 percent discount on certain goods, food purchases in various food chains, bus fare, and healthcare needs.

Baloro said that a 20 percent discount will also be given to cardholders who want to enroll in review centers.

At PHP25 each, the card can only be used with participating companies, he said.

“We would just like to just emphasize that if you possess a senior citizens card and PCUP card, only one of which will be honored. So it’s up to you to choose as to what card you will be using,” he added.

He said the discount card system is partly funded by Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.

The PCUP targeted a total of 1.8 million family beneficiaries nationwide for the urban poor privilege card.

In 2018, PCUP said there were about 107,568 families identified as informal settlers in this city, and about 1,020 urban poor organizations.
