Tropical Storm Uwan reduced its strength as it re-entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), according to the agency’s 5:00 p.m. bulletin.

Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) was last located 210 km northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph, as it moves east-northeastward at 10 kph.

Noting the storm’s proximity to Taiwan, the state weather bureau raised Wind Signal No. 1 in Batanes, warning of up to 4.5-meter-high waves in the island province off Extreme Northern Luzon.

Uwan is expected to maintain its northeastward track until it makes landfall over southern Taiwan later Wednesday.

It will then emerge over the waters off Ryukyu Islands on Thursday (Nov. 13), as it further weakens into a remnant low.

PAGASA, moreover, noted that Uwan’s re-entry will not disrupt weather conditions across the archipelago. As of press time, no other developing weather systems are being monitored by the state weather bureau.
