Villar backs out of Senate presidency race

Senator Cynthia Villar backed out of the Senate presidency race on Wednesday, June 1, and instead threw her support behind Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri.

“Ayoko na, I want a simple life,” Villar told reporters.

Villar said she would instead support Zubiri’s bid and confirmed that she already talked to him.

“Wala nang SP [Senate Presidency] race,” she added.

The Senate President is in the third line of succession, after the President and Vice President.

Meanwhile, Senator Loren Legarda will be the next Senate President Pro Tempore, replacing outgoing Senator Ralph Recto, while Senator Joel Villanueva will be Majority Floor Leader in the 19th Congress. Report from Eunice Samonte/GB – ag
