W. Visayas top cop wants regular civil disturbance exercise

ILOILO CITY — Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) Director Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Binag has called for the regular conduct of exercise for civil disturbance management.

The exercise is necessary to ensure that they are “competent and capable in terms of civil disturbance management (CDM),” Binag said following the whole-day CDM challenge held at the Camp Martin Delgado Thursday.

The competition gathered contingents from the provincial police offices of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo and Negros Occidental and the city police offices of Bacolod and Iloilo, along with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 (RMFB6).

It has three phases: the first phase was the graded inspection that includes the completeness of CDM complement, equipment, uniforms and support elements; the second phase was the demonstration of eight basic CDM formations; and the third phase was the problem-solving of given scenarios.

Selected contingents executed basic formations in a given scenario with the main goal of protecting civilians, VIP officials and government personnel against violent action by protesters.

At the end of the day, the Bacolod City Police bagged the trophy as over-all champion, followed by the RMFB and the Iloilo City Police.

Minor awards were also given to the Iloilo Police for being best in the first phase, RMFB-6 for being best in the second phase, and the Negros Occidental Police for being best in the third phase.

The winners went home with cash prizes, trophies and certificates. (PNA)
