Wounded soldiers honored in Maguindanao

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Commander of the Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry Division (6ID), Major Gen. Arnel dela Vega, on Friday presented honors to wounded soldiers assigned to fight the Islamic State-inspired Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Maguindanao.

Seven infantry men were injured in separate roadside bombing and ambush incidents in Datu Unsay Ampatuan, Maguindanao in the past two weeks.

At the 6ID infirmary here, dela Vega pinned the “Wounded Personnel Medal” to Lt. Janno Reyes, Private 1st Class Michael Poron, and Private Kirt Ramirez, all of 57th Infantry Battalion and injured in the BIFF roadside bombing in Barangay Meta, Datu Unsay Ampatuan on February 20.

Also awarded with medals were Sgt. Tyron Gavino, Privates Ryan Palagaso and Ryan Domilod, all of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion, who were injured in a clash following an ambush by the BIFF in Barangay Sambolawan, Datu Salibo town on February 17.

The injured soldiers can now return to active duty and may be sent back to their mother units in Datu Unsay, Maguindanao. (PNA)
