ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Department of Tourism in Region 9 (DOT-9) has recorded some 723,455 tourist arrivals in 2018 in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Myra Paz Abubakar, DOT assistant secretary and concurrent regional director, on Saturday said that of the total arrivals last year, 11,190 are foreigners, 10,523 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), and 701,742 were domestic tourists.

Abubakar said that most of the foreign tourists who visited the region were Koreans, Chinese, and Europeans.

“The number of tourist arrivals was based on the hotel accommodations report,” Abubakar said.

Among the most visited tourist sites in the region included the pink sand beach Sta. Cruz Island and the 11 islands in this city, and Dakak Park and Beach Resort in Dapitan City.

Other attractions also include scuba diving, golfing, as well as the region’s famous delicacies.
