Zamboanga Sur town councilor survives ambush

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – A town councilor has survived an ambush on Sunday in Dimataling town, this province, the police reported Monday.

PO1 Iresidel Osayan, case investigator, identified the would-be victim as Councilor Evrin Dres, 37, of Dimataling town.

Osayan said Dres was driving his vehicle from Barangay Poblacion to his rice mill in Barangay Kagawasan when fired upon by unidentified gunmen at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Codilog.

Dres was lucky to escape unharmed as he drove fast upon sensing an ambush, the police officer said.

Osayan said all possible motives are being looked into as investigation is ongoing, including personal grudge.

He said the suspects fled towards the direction of Barangay Poblacion, and that the police are conducting follow-up investigation to identify them. (PNA)
