100 Batangueño farmers to undergo 90-day training in SoKor

BATANGAS CITY – Some 100 farmers from Batangas province will be sent to Chuncheon City, South Korea this April to undertake a three-month agricultural training to learn about modern farming techniques and technologies.

Batangas public information office chief Jenelyn A. Aguilera, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Saturday that the advanced agricultural training program is part of the collaborative partnership between the Batangas provincial government and the Chuncheon City government under the 2018 Seasonal Guest Trainee Program.

Aguilera said the farmers are also expected to be exposed to actual farm work and farm laboratory.

She said the provincial Executive Committee was organized to conduct the screening and selection of the farmer-trainees from the province’s eight towns and city — Mataas na Kahoy, Malvar, Sto. Tomas, Taysan, Rosario, San Pascual, San Luis, Balete, and Lipa City. They will be trained on proper and responsible farming, harvesting, packaging, and labeling of agricultural produce using modern agricultural technology.

Governor Hermilando Mandanas chairs the committee with Provincial Agriculturist Engr. Pablito Balantac as vice-chair; Dr. Rommel Marasigan of the Provincial Veterinary Office as committee member; and lawyer Sylvia Marasigan, Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer, as committee secretary.

Aguilera said the expenses for the processing of their travel requirements, as well as their airfare will be shouldered by the farmers but the Executive Committee said the respective local governments which the farmers represent are also ready to provide them assistance.(PNA)
