2 Leyte roads closed due to ‘Urduja’

MANILA — Two roads in Leyte are still impassable after tropical depression “Urduja” battered Eastern Visayas over the weekend, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Monday.

In statement, Engr. Lino Francisco Gonzales of DPWH-Leyte Fourth District Engineering Office (LFDEO) said the roads affected are Kinanga-Tungonan-Hotspring Road in Barangay Lim-ao, Kananga and Libungao-Matag-ob-Palompon Road in Barangay Candelaria.

Both thoroughfares have collapsed slope/slope protection and cut/drop pavements.

With this, the DPWH has requested the immediate release of PHP120 million to rehabilitate the damaged roads.

Although, he noted that these roads were already free from flooding, they are still impassable due to collapsed slope and damaged pavements due to heavy rains.

The DPWH advised motorists to take Junction National-Barangay Monterbello-Aguiting-Lim-ao Road and Sto. Rosario-Villaba-Palompon Road as alternative routes to the affected sections.

Meanwhile, the Palompon-Isabel-Merida-Ormoc Road in Barangay Liloan, Ormoc City, which was earlier closed due road slips, has also been cleared and opened on December 17, 2017.

All other national road networks under DPWH-LFDEO are now passable. (PNA)
