More than 20K families displaced by ‘Vinta’

MANILA — Adverse weather conditions brought by Typhoon “Vinta” has prompted 20,870 families to seek shelter in 261 evacuation centers, National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) spokesperson Mina Marasigan said Monday.

Also, 16,544 families are now being sheltered and aided by their relatives. Flood waters are also reported to be subsiding in Oriental Mindoro, Zamboanga Del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay and parts of the ARMM.

Marasigan added that there are no more stranded passengers as port operations in Vinta-affected provinces have resumed.

As this developed, relief aid, coming from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, has already been flown to Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental.

This includes 1,600 food packs transported without cost by Philippine Airlines.

Marasigan said these will augment relief items carried by Air Force Lockheed C-130 “Hercules” cargo aircraft.

The NDRRMC spokesperson added that military, police and firefighting personnel are helping in the ongoing search-and-rescue operations in the affected provinces. (PNA)
