3 wounded in Basilan clash

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Three people were wounded as two groups of fishermen entangled in long standing dispute clashed off shore Lantawan, Basilan province, the police reported on Tuesday.

Senior Supt. Rufino Inot, Basilan police director, disclosed the firefight broke out at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday near Caluitan Island in Barangay Luuk-Maluha, Lantawan municipality.

Inot identified those involved as that of the groups of Jul Amri Majindi and Ibrahim Alam, both of Barangay Lawi-Lawi, Lantawan.

He disclosed that the firefight broke out and lasted for about 10 minutes when the protagonists crossed path at sea while fishing.

He identified those wounded as Baser Hasim Sagdi, Michael Majindi Amiril, and Amiril Mawali, all followers of Majindi.

He said they were rushed to the hospital in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.

He said that police and military forces were sent to the area to contain the situation and to apprehend those involved in the firefight. (PNA)
